EV Goes to the Opera - "Eugene Onegin" Friday, December 3rd, 8pm San Francisco War Memorial Opera House Have you ever wanted to go to the opera? Here is your chance. Though Tchaikovsky became famous with his ballet favorites, the seven lyric scenes of Eugene Onegin, filled with colorful music and sweeping arias, always remained closest to his heart. In 1877 Pushkin's poetry inspired Tchaikovsky to write an opera about an arrogant man's foolish mistake of rejecting a naive girl's offer of love, only to realize that sometimes in life you only get one chance. In Eugene Onegin, Lensky woos Olga while her sister, Tatyana, falls for the aloof Onegin. Tatyana writes an effusive letter expressing her devotion but Onegin coolly rebuffs her. Many years later Onegin reencounters Tatyana, now the wife of a prince, but their opportunity for love has irretrievably passed. Tickets subsidized will be $30 each (original price $65). Email enwang@stanford.edu by Friday, November 26th with number of tickets desired and if you can drive others (how many) or if you need a ride.
