April 19 Tuesday, "Diary of a Teenage Girl", Egyptian film Middle East Film Series: Diary of a Teenage Girl (Egypt, 2002) Tuesday, April 19, 2005 Starting at 7:30pm and ending at 10pm Bechtel International Center Assembly Room Middle East Collection, Stanford University Libraries Director Inas al-Daghidi's stylish look into the innermost thoughts and fantasies of a typical Egyptian teenage girl was a box office blockbuster, but caused great consternation among moral authorities in Egypt. It was unthinkable that pure Egyptian girls could have such dreams about "boys". Of course, this controversy only fuelled the film's box office take, as everyone rushed to the theater to see what the fuss was all about. Instead of the decadence and depravity denounced by Egyptian moral pundits, Western audiences will find the teenage girl's dreams sweet, romantic and a little callow. Ah, youth! Come see for yourself in this perfect example of modern popular Egyptian cinema. 15. Former Presidential Envoy to Iraq and Medal of Freedom Recipient L.
