I hope you have enjoyed the quarter break, despite the rains, and are looking forward to trying some new classes and programs at the I-Center this spring quarter. Thanks to the volunteer efforts of our teachers, many of last quarter's classes will continue, and some new classes and programs have been added, as well, such as Effective Communication, German for Beginners, The American Political System, The European Constitution, and a Walking Group! We also have a new series of Wednesday Tours that will take advantage of spring weather to introduce several outdoors sites, such as History Park in San Jose, Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, San Francisco highlights (the European art collection at the Palace of the Legion of Honor and a picnic in Golden Gate Park), the formal gardens and stately Georgian mansion at "Filoli", and a walking tour of historic "Professorville", where the first Stanford faculty made their homes at the turn of the century. This tour will end our series with refreshments in a private home in Palo Alto. You'll need to sign up early (at the upstairs desk at the I-Center), since these sites require we send in payment weeks in advance, and space is limited! The Friday Coffee will feature special Japanese cultural displays on April 1 and May 6 this quarter to celebrate Hina Matsuri (Girls Festival) and Kodomono-hi (Boys Festival). Don't miss these chances to sample Japanese sweets and snacks and to get a taste of Japanese traditions such as tea ceremony and origami (paper-folding art)! Many thanks to Tomomi and Minori and the Japanese women for sharing these traditions with all of us! And thanks to everyone for your help with this cooperative Friday Coffee program. We are forming a Friday Coffee Team to coordinate the setting up and putting away of the supplies each week. If you can help once or twice a month, please contact Gwyn at gdukes@stanford.edu. Thanks in advance for your help! You'll find the full schedule of I-Center Classes & Programs for Spouses this quarter attached to this email, and also on our web site at: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/icenter/families/classes.html I hope you'll join us for several of the classes and programs, and look forward to seeing you at the I-Center soon!
