My Favorite Movie Friday, March 11 At 6:45 P.M. Assembly Room, Bechtel International Center Join Chris as he presents his favorite movie, Burnt by the Sun in Russian with English subtitles. (135 min) There's no more heartbreakingly beautiful movie this year." - Thelma Adams, NEW YORK POST Winner of the 1994 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the Cannes Grand Jury Prize, BURNT BY THE SUN is a story of a Soviet hero whose happy family is suddenly targeted by Stalin's secret police. Nikita Mikhalkov ("A Cruel Romance") directs and stars as Colonel Sergei Kotov, a hero of the Revolution who is spending the summer in the country with his little daughter, his wife and her eccentric family. But when his wife's childhood love suddenly appears, the idyllic summer day takes a surprising turn. A lyrical film filled with beauty and warmth, BURNT BY THE SUN is also an indelible account of a man dedicated to family and the fatherland, cruelly destroyed by political paranoia. Movie starts at 7:00 P.M. but we meet at 6:45 P.M. and have a drink, a little snack and chat before we start.  Come and join us!  Everyone is welcome! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ End of EV Newsletter To post to the EV Newsletter, visit: http://ev.stanford.edu/submitevent.shtml
