It is a beautiful dance form that provides endless opportunity for improvisation and playfulness. Come and learn the basics, or develop your existing skills. Our goal is to get you dancing and having fun right away. Emphasis will be on rhythm and musicality, and partnering with lead and follow techniques. Everyone will learn to both lead and follow. The first class will start with exercises on rhythm, walking, balance, and connection, then will focus on one or a couple of similar techniques for the rest of the class. This quarter, the second class will work on molinetes/giros: turning around your partner. The classes will build skills throughout the series; so, while everyone is welcome to drop in for the occasional class it could be confusing to only come to the last class. *Salsa classes will start 11/11 You need: -no experience. The fundamentals class will assume no previous dance experience. -for the intermediate class you must be comfortable leading and following ochos. -no partner. In this class, students will learn the graceful and elegant dance movements that will make them experience their bodies in a new and enriching way. By the end of the class they will be able to perform a full dance routine. This ancient dance, which has been used for healing and spirituality as well as fun and entertainment, will help students access their inner beauty and express themselves in a profound elegant way. Increase your fitness, flexibility, inner balance and vitality while enjoying the harmonies and rhythms of eastern music. For all ages, genders, skill levels and body types. Wear Comfortable exercise clothes; bring a hip wrap or a large scarf. Instructor, Hala, is a native of Egypt who grew up with this dance. She teaches and performs regularly in the bay area.
