Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive *TODAY* Thursday, November 25th, 1pm - 6pm Market Place, Wilbur Hall Are you planning on enjoying a free Thanksgiving meal next Thursday? Share some of the holiday spirit by bringing a canned food item to drop off at the annual GSC Thanksgiving dinner to help those less fortunate. Canned goods will be collected at the entrance of the Wilbur Hall Marketplace and donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Second Harvest is a private non-profit organization that collects and distributes more than 27 million pounds of food each year to low-income children, adults and seniors. The Food Bank currently serves an average of 163,500 individuals each month; nearly 60% are families with dependent children. Some items that are most needed: powdered milk, peanut butter, pasta, tuna, low-sugar cereal, meals in a can (stew, chili, soup), 100% fruit juices in single-serving boxes, canned foods with pop-top lids. All nutritious, non-perishable items will be greatly appreciated; please avoid donating items packaged in glass. A single can of food WILL make a difference! EV Goes to the Opera - "Eugene Onegin" Friday, December 3rd, 8pm San Francisco War Memorial Opera House Have you ever wanted to go to the opera? Here is your chance. Though Tchaikovsky became famous with his ballet favorites, the seven lyric scenes of Eugene Onegin, filled with colorful music and sweeping arias, always remained closest to his heart. In 1877 Pushkin's poetry inspired Tchaikovsky to write an opera about an arrogant man's foolish mistake of rejecting a naive girl's offer of love, only to realize that sometimes in life you only get one chance. In Eugene Onegin, Lensky woos Olga while her sister, Tatyana, falls for the aloof Onegin. Tatyana writes an effusive letter expressing her devotion but Onegin coolly rebuffs her. Many years later Onegin reencounters Tatyana, now the wife of a prince, but their opportunity for love has irretrievably passed. Tickets subsidized will be $30 each (original price $65). RSVP to enwang@stanford.edu by Friday, November 26th. Lottery will be held for tickets.
