What is the VRC?
The Village Rental Co-op, or VRC, is a place Stanford
students, staff, and their families can rent stuff they need
- on a student budget! We're an independent organization,
run completely by volunteers, most of whom live in Escondido
Village. We're here to meet the needs of the Stanford
community!
To take a look at the equipment that's available, along with
rental fees, check out our equipment page.
Some history. . .
The VRC began in May of 1966, using money received from the
Stanford Mother's Club and the Escondido Village Family
Council to cover start up costs. The VRC's original name was
the Trading Post. Its name was changed to the Village Rental
Co-op in 1986.
Since the VRC was founded over 30 years ago, volunteers have
come and gone. However, our wonderful volunteers continue
to give us the support we need to keep things running!
Who can rent?
Any member of the Stanford community is welcome to rent. The
Stanford community includes students, staff, and faculty and
their partners - anyone with a current Stanford ID card. Just
present your card when you're ready to rent!
For more information on renting, including rules and
regulations, see our rental info
page.
How can the VRC afford to stay open? It rents at such low
prices!
The main reason all our rental costs are so cheap is that
volunteers run everything at the VRC. Nearly all your rental
money goes directly into maintaining, replacing, and updating
equipment.
Since we're not for profit, but exist only to make life
better for students and their families, we serve our purpose
in the community only by keeping our prices really low.
VRC volunteers are members of the Stanford community, just
like you, who think the VRC is providing a great service, and want to
see that service continued. If you'd also like to help us out, see
our volunteer page.
